Meet Maira Abasto Vega, the passionate Executive Director, Lead Teacher, and DELE Specialist at Isabella & Ferdinand. Hailing from La Paz, Bolivia, Maira brings a deep love for children, education, and the Spanish language to our academy.

Maira's journey began as a French and English teacher, but her unwavering dedication led her to pursue a law degree in Bolivia. Along the way, she acquired a wealth of knowledge, including a diploma from Nancy University and a DEUG from Stendhal in Foreign Language Studies.

With a Bachelor's degree in French and a solid foundation in Primary and Secondary Studies from the esteemed Colegio Franco Boliviano "Alcyde D'orbigny," Maira continued to nurture her passion for teaching. In 2011, she made a pivotal decision to enrich her language instruction by incorporating her native tongue, Spanish, and rediscovering her true calling: teaching languages and working with children.

Driven by a thirst for knowledge and a desire to elevate her teaching skills, Maira earned a Master's degree in Education from Strayer University, graduating summa cum laude. Furthermore, in 2014, she obtained certification in the DELE exam by the esteemed Instituto Cervantes, solidifying her expertise in Spanish language instruction.

Maira, has over 10 years of experience managing Isabella & Ferdinand Academy. She has been passionately involved in teaching at charter schools and The District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), sharing her expertise in Spanish instruction. Throughout her career in the US, Maira has wholeheartedly dedicated herself to empowering children in the Washington, DC area through immersive Spanish language education. Her commitment to excellence and her nurturing approach have made a lasting impact on the students she has taught.
